Main Favorite Player
John Brayford: Mr Reliable
John Brayford: A great prospect and classy defender, John has come on leaps and bounds in the last
year, turning from reserve centre back, to Conference right back. Still only 19, John is bound to mentioned as a possible
league player in the future, and I just hope like many other players to come through the Burton Albion door, that Nigel Clough
and Gary Crosby dont destroy him as a player, and play him out of position.
Ex Players who were favourites
Arriving in the summer of 2002 from Oldham, Craig Dudley was one of the biggest buys that Nigel Clough
had made. After a poor first season, dogged by injury, the fans were'nt impressed. But a solid second season saw Craig establish
himself as an important member of the squad. His last season with the brewers was his best by far, scoring 8 goals and playing
out of his skin. Some including myself questionned why he was let go at the start of the season, but in football anything
can happen.
One of the most technically gifted left backs the club has ever seen, Lee Colkin was a fans favourite
around the ground. Joining from Morecambe at the age of 28 in the summer of 2003, he immediately established himself
as a great player, with wicked crosses and a powerful left foot. Although he only played 14 games for the club, all of them
he played well, and although his fitness wasnt the best, there was no justified reason why Nigel Clough decided to release
him.
A great keeper, standing at 6"5, Matt Duke was one of the best keepers to grace the club. Although
prone to silly errors (which keeper isnt) he had great shot stopping ability, and a huge kick out of his hands (which once
cleared the whole length of the stadium). He was also a rare breed of keeper with a few goals to his name, one being a penalty
against Frickley Utd in the Unibond winning season.
Ex players who were rubbish!!!
Much was expected of Steve Chettle, but little was actually produced, at 35 it was apparent his legs
had gone, and he had lost all interest in the game, not one good appearance springs to mind, and when he left, there was champagne
on ice for everyone at the club.
Although he had a good loan spell with the brewers, not much can be said of Stuart Reddington. At
6"4 he was a very clumsy player, and couldnt kick a ball in a straight line, although he did score a few goals from corners,
he had usually made 2 or 3 mistakes before, and the team were already losing. He is one player who doenst deserve a warm
welcome on his next visit to the club.
Lee Glover, probably will one day take the crown as Nigel Clough's worst signing, he utter lack of
pace and energy astounded me, and the other 1000 I'm sure too. He did score 2 goals in his time at the brewers, one which
was very good, but after that he did absolutely nothing. When he left the club, I for one was very happy.
